Hello! I am the chaplaincy assistant at St Peter’s. Before starting my job here in September 2009 I spent 4 years studying at Manchester University, History BA and then Cultural History MA, so I know Manchester well and I love it here.

I grew up in South-East London with my mum in lovely flat in a place called Plumstead. I didn’t have a Christian upbringing but I did have a sense of some belief in the non-material. Joining an Anglican church choir at fourteen meant that I went to church every Sunday for four years, but it was really at university in Manchester that I came to faith. I was baptised at the age of 24 in this fair city!

I have had a broad Christian experience, spending some time attending Quaker meetings and worshipping at evangelical and ecumenical churches. I have great respect for many Christian traditions and it is my pleasure to work at St Peter's, where all are welcome. I now worship here and live in Chorlton.

So what is a chaplaincy assistant? Well, I’m still working that out too! I organise events, chat to students, make tea and, among other things, co-ordinate our evening service, the Keep It Simple Service. This is a short, reflective service in which students are involved through choosing readings, playing songs and offering reflections.

I think laughter is important so a lot of my spare time is spent giggling with friends and watching comedy. I’m a big fan of gospel music, especially Kirk Franklin, though hip-hop is my first love. I love to sing too, which I do with the choir here. My fiancé David and I also pride ourselves on a large collection of non-caffeinated teas, from liquorice to mint, yum! If you ever fancy a cuppa I’m usually in reception.
