John Probhudan

I was born in Jessore, Bangladesh and brought up in the Salvation Army tradition. Before coming to Manchester as a chaplain, I lived in Birmingham and also Central Coast, Newcastle of Australia.

I graduated from the National University of Bangladesh in English literature (2000) and went to Asia Ecumenical Academy (2003) in Bangkok, Thailand run by Christian Conference of Asia.

I was acting National Coordinator of the Student Christian Movement in Bangladesh (2002-March 2003) prior to which I worked as a development worker with a national NGO in Bangladesh and taught in an English Medium School. I was regional committee member of the World Student Christian Federation Asia-Pacific region (2004-2005). I also worked as staff member of Student Christian Movement of Great Britain from (2005-2006).

As a chaplain, I am committed to the ecumenical student ministry. I am available to anyone, if you are of faith and of no faith at all, you are always welcome at Chaplaincy. You can drop in anytime you would like, but on Thursdays you will find me at Chaplaincy, on Tuesday afternoons in the north campus of University of Manchester, and usually on Friday afternoons at the UMSU. You can also see me at the International Society on Oxford Road, William Kay House at times.

I am very keen on interfaith issue. There is an Interfaith Society which meets on Tuesday evening at the Chaplaincy. Feel free to come along. There's Abraham's table once every term which brings together students of Abrahamic and all other world faiths to share delicious food and foods for thoughts on faith and spirituality! Keep an eye out for this event; you will see posters at the International Society and also at the Student Union notice boards!

I like traveling and have traveled across Asia, Europe and Australia. My favorite journey is a trip to Darjeeling in the Himalayan Peaks in India. I also like watching movies. Forrest Gump is my most favorite film!

I live with my wife Edwina Hunter, who is a lawyer by profession and son Jude Hironmoy who loves running around the house. We live near Manchester United football stadium (Old Trafford).

Looking forward to meeting you and God bless!
