‘The land of milk and honey’ is a place described in books of old as a rich place of abundance and blessing. A fertile land, where good things grow and there is enough for everybody. When I think about what this place would be like I imagine a place of justice and imagination – not an ‘end point’ or destination but a place where people work together to see a hopeful future become reality.
‘Milk & Honey’ café at St Peter’s House will keep this imagination at the heart of things, whilst serving up proper coffee, cracking brews and cockle-warming, freshly cooked food that will see you heading off with a happy belly and the warm glow of knowing you’ve been part of something good. We look around our fine city of Manchester and we see abundant good – people and organisations driven by a vision of how things could be different, better and fairer for all. Emerging networks and chance conversations that spark ideas and sound like a growing chorus of good folk looking around at the undeniable problems in the systems and sadness on our streets and saying: “Not in our city!”
We are working hard to get ‘Milk & Honey’ up-and-running as soon as we can. Slap-bang at the front of St Peter’s House, ‘Milk & Honey’ is going to offer something different to our academic neighbours as well as the wider communities of Manchester. We’re working to bring all the good stuff around us under one roof – to create encounters and experiences between people and new ideas that might just be the start of something big. The next industrial revolution in Manchester, built on a vision of justice, peace, community, love, abundant good…? We have big dreams, and we’re not afraid to use them.
To make ‘Milk & Honey’ a reality, we need YOU. Yes, you. We need volunteer baristas, café hosts and food geniuses. We need all the abundant good in you – bring us your skills, your gifts and your dreams, and join us as we prepare to make ‘Milk & Honey’ café a place where good stuff grows and there is always enough for everyone.
