Celeriac Dahl

Dahl is so underrated! This delicious celeriac dahl shows you what can be done with this unusual root veg.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 100g Lentils
  • 1/2 Celeriac, roughly cubed into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove Garlic, finely chopped
  • Water
  • Oil
  • 8- Curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional extras – Green/Red chilli slices, coriander

Optional Extras

  • Green/Red chilli slices, coriander

Recipe Instructions

Method
Fry the chopped onions in oil until softened then add your spices. Mix well and cook
until you can smell the spices beginning to smell really good.

Next add the diced Celeriac, mix so the celeriac is coated in spice and cook for about
5 mins – stirring often so it doesn’t stick to the pan (add more oil if needed).

Add your tomatoes and (optional) green chilli and give it a good stir.

Add the lentils and allow to toast for another few mins, stirring occasionally and
then cover with water and cook until the celeriac and the lentils are soft. You can
add more water if needed while cooking, just keep an eye on this to make sure there
is still a little water in the pan before the lentils and celeriac are soft (but don’t add
too much as it’ll be watery).

Once soft season with a little salt/pepper and serve.
